I never really realized it before but I love the beginning of a new year. Something about it makes me feel fresh and ready to try new things. This year should have lots of fun and exciting things to look forward to.
2005 ended well. Chris and Jes came over for a fancy dinner and to watch the fireworks that were set off over the river. It was a great view from my balcony so the 4th of July should be even better when we can actually go outside. Amy, Jeremy, and his new girlfriend (I forgot her name already) all came over later for the midnight activities. We drank a bunch at RiverWest and then decided to try and get into Noche across the street. The cover was $25 and I felt very under-dressed in a sweater and jeans so we just went back to my place. I was really surprised that no one rented out the RiverWest lobby for new year’s eve. I thought for sure it would be packed with people and we could just crash the party.
The highlight of watching the TV broadcast was the live performance of Hillary Duff’s “Beat of my Heart”. What a perfect pop song. I listened to it again and counted her saying “to the beat of my heart” 51 times. 51 times.In a 3 minute song. The composer of the song is listed as “The Dead Executives” which I picture in my head as a bunch of mid-40 year old emo-glass-wearing guys that can just crank out perfect pop songs in a time shorter than the length of the actual songs.
The rest of weekend was pretty calm. I was fighting off a cold from last week which everyone else I know seems to have got. We ran down our Top 24 instrumental records on Now Like Photographs which I thought was a really strong list. We’re also working on getting a NLP podcast together for this year. We just need to jump through a couple more hoops with copyright stuff on the songs and we’ll be good to go. And speaking of new technology things, I’m near completion on the new iJFP.com blog design. I have a few things left with graphics and the RSS to HTML script templates. I’m shooting to get it done by the blog’s 1-year anniversary next month. Next up will be a badly needed nowlikephotographs.com redesign.
