New Blog

Inspired by last week’s poll I have started a business speak blog and wanted to use Tumblr so I could learn a new platform.

I’ll be updating it pretty frequently since I realize how many ridiculous things I hear in a day on the phone…

Brookfield this Weekend

It’s a nice Friday fall afternoon and I’m actually looking forward to the drive down to Milwaukee.  I haven’t seen my parents in almost 6 months now which will make for a nice homecoming.  There aren’t any big plans to work on my car or anything else crazy so it should also be a fairly relaxing weekend of doing nothing.  With all the travel I have some food things to give my mom and her copy of Norton 360 expired so I’ll be upgrading her to the 2.0 version.  For Rex, I have some Port from Portugal and some random car questions to ask.  Next week I’m in Chicago to deliver some work training and some quality Dave/Pat/anyone else that’s around time.  Yay for staying in the midwest this month!

Switching Hosts

Go DaddyDave finally put the nail in the coffin when he told me that iJFP.com wasn’t working this morning. I’m making the switch from Powweb to GoDaddy.com over the next couple of days so iJFP may be up and down. I also host nowlikephotographs.com on Powweb and haven’t heard any complaints with that so I’m guessing it’s database problems since iJFP.com runs off of my personally hacked up version of WordPress/MySQL and nowlikephotographs.com is just straight up HTML. Either way hopefully the site loads better on GoDaddy – they were about $30 cheaper and I got to use one of those Digg coupon codes I always hear about at the end of Diggnation.

Jennifer’s Wedding Weekend

Bloc Party in ChicagoFriday night I flew in to Chicago and took the train to Pat’s place where I met up with Wipert and him to go to the Bloc Party show. I’m so glad I finally got to see them. They’re the first band I can honestly say I like more than Pearl Jam and they put on a pretty good show despite being outside and having a bad sound mix. They played everything I wanted to hear off of both their albums. “Like Eating Glass” was the highlight of the night for Pat and I. Wipert claims “Banquet” was the best but they had the second guitar turned down WAY to soft so it didn’t sound as good as it could have. The stuff off their second album seemed to come across live better than “Silent Alarm” even though they are slower and have more production effects added to it. Something about the complicated timing off of Silent Alarm just doesn’t work as well live. Either way I am really glad I got to see them and I can’t wait to see them in a proper club sometime. I have a feeling they will always remain a better studio band. Continue reading

Labor Day Weekend

Labor DayI needed an excuse to blog since nothing very write-worthy has been going on in my life right now so I’ll talk about a fun weekend I just had. Work has been a little less hectic lately with our new release out the door so Friday when I realized I had stayed late a couple of nights already I decided to duck out a little early with Jim to go play golf. Jim had some family friend who work at a course that got us 9 holes for free. I was playing particularly well (and consistent which is even more rare) so after 9 we decided to play the course again and make 18 out of it. It was an absolutely beautiful day outside, mid 70′s, light breeze and a long weekend ahead to look forward to. It was a perfect way to spend a late Friday afternoon.

The Rest of the Weekend
I just finished up a class at Augsburg so this was the first Saturday in a long time I didn’t have to study and get stuff done at home. I slept in nice and late and then bummed around to get some errands and grocery shopping done. It wasn’t until I was at the Quary (the Target and grocery store by campus is called the Quary) that I realized it was move in weekend for school. There was an ape-ton of people out but it made me glad to be out of undergrad and not dealing with moving every year and all that fun stuff. Continue reading

A Sad Evening

35W collapseI got home earlier than usual today (Wednesday) from work.  I’ve been skipping 35W lately since the traffic has been slow with all the construction they’ve been doing so I’ve found a nice quick way across the 3rd avenue bridge that gets me to work in about 20 minutes opposed to a 10 minute run across the 35W bridge when there is no traffic.  So I got home around 5:45.  I usually don’t get home until later but I was going to go for a run or work out before I headed down to Chicago where I am right now.  That changed at a little after 6 though when Jim called and asked if I could see what was going on outside.  I had been hearing police cars none stop go by for the last few minutes but didn’t think anything of it as I was packing for vacation.  I went out to my balcony and all I could tell was that the 10th avenue bridge was on fire (the picture on this post shows the smoke from that).  Jim said the 35W bridge had fell down and it wasn’t until I got off the phone that I realized I couldn’t see the 35W bridge cause it was in the water.  The 10th avenue bridge is usually partially covered up by the 35W bridge so it didn’t dawn on me until I realized I could see the whole bridge behind where 35W had been.  This was about 10-15 minutes after it fell so I called Rex to let him know I was ok.  I couldn’t get a hold of my Mom or any other family so I’m glad I got through early on since after I talked to him my cell phone stopped working until I was on my way to the airport and outside of downtown.

Weekend in Milwaukee

BMW 528 in the cityLast weekend was about Paal, this weekend was about cars which pretty much is the theme of when I come back to Brookfield now a days. Seems that there are less people around each time I’m back but I did get to hang out with Erin and Paal for a Summerfest/late night Perkin’s evening that was chalk full of nostalgia. I did not build a gigantic pyramid of coffee creamers or order the appetizer sampler but it was still good times. I also got to see both sides of the extended family for some German cooking and meeting lots of relatives I never can remember.
Car Stuff
So the main reason I was heading home was to fix a few things on my car. Friday was spent replacing the right rear window innards that had broken about a year ago. Rex had figured out a way to force the window in to staying up but that broke and the window had been slowly rolling down every other day. The only thing that was broke was a little wire but BMW only sells the whole unit with the window moter despite just needing a small piece of metal that broke. Continue reading
