Friday night I flew in to Chicago and took the train to Pat’s place where I met up with Wipert and him to go to the Bloc Party show. I’m so glad I finally got to see them. They’re the first band I can honestly say I like more than Pearl Jam and they put on a pretty good show despite being outside and having a bad sound mix. They played everything I wanted to hear off of both their albums. “Like Eating Glass” was the highlight of the night for Pat and I. Wipert claims “Banquet” was the best but they had the second guitar turned down WAY to soft so it didn’t sound as good as it could have. The stuff off their second album seemed to come across live better than “Silent Alarm” even though they are slower and have more production effects added to it. Something about the complicated timing off of Silent Alarm just doesn’t work as well live. Either way I am really glad I got to see them and I can’t wait to see them in a proper club sometime. I have a feeling they will always remain a better studio band.
First up, pictures are here if you haven’t seen them on Facebook yet. What a great time. I got to drive the BMW convertible to the wedding with the top down, sunny, 70 degrees, you couldn’t ask for a better day to meet up with all your old friends. We sat through the ceremony and gathered at TGI Friday’s for drinks before the reception. I didn’t realize how much Italian heritage Jennifer’s family had but it led to some great food. I don’t think I’ve had piscoties (sp?) since the last time I was in Italy. And canolies? Genius. It may be one of the last times we’re all in Brookfield at the same time so we made the most of it. I also really enjoyed the singles table, I might need to start going stag to all weddings if it’s as much fun as that was. We can recreate it at Brigitte/Mark’s wedding at the very least.
The rest of this post will basically be a stream of consiousness since Wipert and Pat suggest I live blog the drive from Milwaukee to Chicago (Wipert and I are flying home from Chicago). I’ll warn you ahead of time that this MAY be the most boring thing to live blog ever. And I’ll probably get sick of it before long. ***Note this was actually not live since I accidently clicked save as draft instead of post***
I’m listening to some “Love Spit Love” in the back seat of Pat’s car on the way back to Chicago after Jennifer’s wedding this weekend in Milwaukee. Wipert is freaking out over it and Pat seems disappointed that it isn’t the 4th time we’re listening to the Tokyo Police Club album. It’s pretty alright . A single tear drop just fell from Wipert’s eye as we passed the Brookfield water tower on 94. Alright that’s it. I’m already sick of this.
In the 3.5 hours we spent in a car together, that’s all that was blog-worthy? I’m so ashamed. At least Tokyo Police got a name drop.
Anyway, phenomenal weekend–time of my life? Seeing everyone this weekend really knocked my socks off. We have to do this more often.
It’s too bad you won’t be able to re-create the singles table, since we aren’t having assigned seating and we will be requiring everybody to mingle with everybody else at our wedding!
Haha, great liveblogging, Pfeiffer!
